The Next Step By Clay Busker May 21st, 1997 Graduation is upon us. The time has come for us to move on. We are no longer children. Yet we are not yet adults. We were born not long ago, and will be dead soon enough. Life is a paradox. There are those that look upon us and wish us happiness and success. Then there are others that assume that we will become failures soon enough. The two roads are always diverging, and we are always choosing. Which is right? Which is wrong? Is there a right? Is there a wrong? Then again, what is the meaning of life? The question that has plagued generation on top of generation. Yet we believe that the answer is simple. It is what we make it. Is the purpose of being alive to help others? Is it to seek out happiness? Is it to find complete contentedness? Is it to advance the human race? Is it to show the weaknesses of the same race? Is it ever the same for two different people? Yes, exactly what is our meaning in life? What is our purpose in this world? We are the generation that some think are without direction or purpose. We are the generation that some think is one of the last chances to save our nation. We are the generation that has been raised on television and weaned on computers. We are the generation that has more knowledge than ever before, yet no more wisdom than anyone before. Graduation is upon us. What will we do? We will change the world. But in what way? Ruminations of a new High School graduate.
